Applying Shopping Voucher Discounts

Making sure you are using the best discount available is hard work, and it can be very confusing sometimes when looking at discounts trying to work out which one is going to give you the best deal for your money, especially when you also have different shops selling the same thing, but charging different postage rates, and when the discounts offered by each shop work in a different way some only apply when there’s a minimum order value (mov), while others apply regardless of how much you spend. Some work on percentages meaning the more you spend the greater your saving, while others are fixed value discounts.

Just because your friend says they got the best deal using a particular voucher code doesn’t mean you will. You may be spending more or less than they did, or there may be a new code that’s just appeared in the last day or so that wasn’t around last week when they did their shopping.

A good way to figure out which way is going to mean you spend the least amount on the item you want is to draw up a little table to help you so you can easily compare the prices both with and without the discount, and with the postage added in as well.

A table of this sort might look something like this:

Store

Item

Price

Discount

Price after discount

Postage cost

Total price

Brownworths

Vase

£18

£3.99

£21.99

Done in this way, we can look at all the different options and easily work out which of the four is going to work out the cheapest for us. In this case the cheapest place would be Martins shop which although it sells the item at the highest price at £25 before discount is offering £5 off with no minimum spend, and free delivery meaning that by the time you’ve applied all these, it will only cost you £20. The most expensive would be Labay store which looks the cheapest at first glance selling the vase at just £15, but isn’t offering any discounts and has a high delivery fee meaning that the total price would be the highest of the lot at £22.00
